Bishop Manogue left no doubt in rolling to the Regional softball title.
The Miners got out to 9-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 14-0 win over Reed on Saturday at Manogue in the Class 5A-Regional title game.
Manogue senior Sammi Boggs was almost unhittable as she allowed just one hit and struck out five for the Miners. She also went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs at the plate.
Manogue had beaten Reed, 6-5, on a walk-off home run on Wednesday to send the Raiders to the losers bracket.
Loralei Hysell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Lo Faust went 2-for-2 with a home run on her 18th birthday, and Reese Vaulet was 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs for the Miners. Sis King had an RBI and scored two runs.
Hayley Noble had the Raiders' lone hit, going 1-for-2.
Manogue coach Chris King, in his fourth season at the school, said the result Saturday was what the team had been building toward all season.
"To say I expected that, no, but to say I wanted to compete at that type of level all year, 100 percent," King said. "We put together one of the best teams that Manogue has ever seen, and now you're seeing it come to this time of year."
Manogue last won the Regional in 2011 in the Class 3A.
Both Bishop Manogue and Reed advance to the state softball tournament at Faith Lutheran in Southern Nevada.
"Since our freshman year, we've been, with this group, trying to get to state and winning Regionals and here we are, celebrating on our field," Sis King said.
Reed will play Palo Verde at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Bishop Manogue will play Arbor View at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Palo Verde beat Arbor View, 14-4 for the 5A-South Regional championship.
